Zhujiajiao, dubbed the "Venice of the East," offers a different beauty. No noisy water buses—only hand-rowed boats drifting beneath ancient stone bridges. This is not a ticketed attraction, but a living town. Mornings bring elderly residents shopping by the bridge; evenings carry home-cooking aromas. It's this authentic rhythm that leaves the deepest impression. The centerpiece is Fangsheng Bridge—the largest five-arched stone bridge in Shanghai, dating to the Ming Dynasty. From its top, you get a sweeping panorama. To the north lies Beida Street, the best-preserved Ming and Qing architectural street, lined with old storefronts evoking a bygone era. A boat ride is essential. Our itinerary includes a traditional sculling boat, where gentle oars carry you under bridge after bridge.
